Letters to the Senator
On February 25, my laptop broke and, like many small businesses, I wondered where the money was going to come to pay for the repair. I did the only thing a person can do in these troubled times—I wrote my senator.

Senator Patty Murray,
Please understand that I ask a reply to my letter with a certain amount of irony. Your are certainly busy, and I sincerely do not wish to waste your time.
Nonetheless, I am a disenfranchised American, one who no longer believes in the system. I am a firm believer in the Balkanization of the United States. I am a firm secessionist. I believe that if the Pacific Northwest split for the rest of the United States, all of its denizens would be better off.
I am respectfully asking you for an hoest plea to your costiuets for cotiued faith i the AMerica system of goveremet.
Please uderstad that my computer o loger types the letter after “m,” ad I ca o loger afford to replace it.
Please aswer my letter. I am a America, ad I would still kill or die for this coutry. I do believe, but i these troubled times, I just eed a pat o the head.

Dear Mr. Moroney:
Thank you for contacting me with your ideas concerning the future of America. It was good to hear from you.
I have always believed that the involvement of citizens in government is vital to its success. In all societies, government policies have a profound impact on our daily lives. We are fortunate to live in a country in which nearly every citizen has a say in how the nation is governed. Our opinions are expressed through the ballot box, and as such, have a real impact on the everyday decisions made by our elected representatives.
I have always encouraged the political involvement and participation of Washington State citizens. If we all get involved, we can make a positive difference in the lives of ordinary Americans. We can affect real change in our country as long as we have vision and are honest regarding real life issues such as education, health care, and the economy. We can work together to create innovative solutions to these and other challenges that face our nation.
I am a strong believer that politics should focus on people, and nothing is more important to me than receiving advice and comments from the people of Washington State. I hope you will continue to stay in touch, and that you will not hesitate to call on me whenever I may be of assistance.
Again, thank you for contacting me. Please keep in touch.
I hope all is well in Seattle.
